Rare American Indian Drum
Wayne Mattox Shares His Excitement!
Remember the beautiful Sioux culture so accurately portrayed in Costner's academy award winning film, Dances with Wolves? We humbly invite you to another part of the story: the ponderosa pine 19th century buffalo hide covered drum attributed to the northern central plains Indians retains original 2-sided paint decoration. Side one pictures the great horse people wrangling a black stallion. A close look at the upper section features plateau lands where Custer made his last stand. Side two is just as interesting. The Sioux psychic identity and prowess pictures a beautiful red hued sunset where a horse and buffalo seem to be running away from the last days of America's wild west horse culture. The revered white buffalo is translucent, foreshadowing the sad last days of the buffalo and the native people so dependant upon them. Amazingly, this drum still plays.
